  1. Thanks! The Force was awakened and kept up till past Midnight. We had 20-25 attendees who were given an immersive overview of the library's Star Wars Day and how Star Wars can be used as an effective tool of how Star Wars can be used as an effective tool to bring reluctant readers to the library. Obi-Shawn drove this point home further by sharing an experience he had at last year's Star Wars Day where a mother had a son come up and share his report card with Obi-Shawn. The mom explained how the boy's grades had increased tenfold since she took her son to Star Wars day and Obi-Shawn told him the first step to becoming a Jedi is to read and study intensely. The mom told him that she tried every other program and Sylvan tutoring etc to get her son to bring his grades up for years and that Obi-Shawn telling him he needed to study to become a Jedi was the one thing that had gotten him motivated to read.
The after hours panel began with some background information After that an excellent video put together by Miguel and overseen by Adam that showed the scope of the event and got all the right laughs at all the right places - not so sure, I can say for my jokes:), After the video Obi-Shawn helped the audience learn how to talk like Yoda and led the audience in a sing-a-long of "Old George Lucas Had a Ranch" (sung to the tune of Old MacDonald Had a Farm), people got to nerf-blast a stormtrooper, take photos with some costumed characters and leave with a pair of handcrafted Yoda ears planted firmly on their heads..

  3. Night Track at CLA was awesome! It definitely opened my mind, and I realized that there is a library universe out there.

The program on Failure was fascinating, there are several branches out there in California who have gone through interesting experiences.

At 11pm I attended Allen's panel on Star Wars Day, and it was fun to see librarians excited about an event RCPL Staff successfully do year after year. Lots of selfies were taken with the Mandalorian Mercs and Obi-Shawn.

At midnight I enjoyed a spicy but delicious breakfast burrito! Then felt like I was watching the Cat Fest Video Michelle and I pieced together for the first time. I have probably seen it a thousand times and was already unexcited of it. But there was something intriguing about being in a conference hall literally in the middle of the night, with exhausted yet enthused librarians enjoying burritos, and laughing at cat videos.

When I get the chance I will upload the Star Wars Day and Cat Video Film Fest videos to the I -Drive, so everyone can get a glimpse into the CLA night track.

    1. You did a great job, Miguel! The woman sitting 2 rows in front of me literally could not contain herself for the duration of the video. She was doubled over in laughter and wiping away tears for almost the entire thing.
