Center for Childhood Creativity
This was an interactive program that focused on collaborative play through some hands on art / architecture activities. We were asked to build structures using paper to support pamphlets an inch off the chair. We were asked to try this activity several times - with the last round asking us to to
1) choose a design you see from around the room that inspires you
2) as a group discuss, collaborate, as a group build on someones idea
3) be original
The takeaways from the program was that starting at about age 9 / 4th grade children start to feel pressure from society to conform. What we can do is offer programs / opportunities to express creativity and the number one thing we can do is to ask children to be "original". By asking for originality, it frees children up to try out their creative skills.
