Remember that 1 million readers challenge we did over the summer? The results are in. Last year, there were 789,387 participants statewide, indicating an 8% increase in statewide participation over 2014. Although no 1 million, still a respectable turnout, and growing.
Some highlights and some of my favorite ideas that came out of the session:
Early Literacy Connections
Interactive Displays
- Gold Medal and Flag Matches -- Have kids count gold medals to match the display; Have kids match flags to the country it belongs to
- Create textured olympic rings by gluing anything and everything on (feathers, misfit toys that don't have a home, etc.)
- Sight Word Movement Match - Have the kids match pictures of run, jump, swim, kick, etc. or have them pick a card and do that movement
- Shadow Match - Put a picture of an image on the wall and then create a shadow out of black felt - have the kids match
