The Entrepreneurial Librarian

The entrepreneurial librarians presenting this program weren't really about making money, which is what I thought, but about reinventing themselves at a time when they'd hit the "end of their creativity run." This program was about reigniting your passion and it was really impactful.  The two speakers both had different case studies to share, but essentially they both took what we're limiting job titles and job descriptions and turned them upside down. Interestingly through 2 separate Eureka grants they both identified service gaps in their libraries (school outreach and local history) and found a passion for the broader work with students and teachers, and special collections/archives.  Neither presenter was specifically tasked with these responsibilities, but through the projects they grew to reignite their passion for library work.  The presentations were strong because they discussed more task oriented ideas like project mgmt and business planning, and big picture stuff like talking to power, promoting yourself, taking risks, and how to embrace change.  Another good job by Palos Verdes staff.
